Jarabi For Classical Guitar Full Score in Staff Notation
This is the great Malian classic of the twentieth century. In my opinion it is the greatest piece in this genre and certainly the finest and most rewarding piece to play on solo guitar. Here it is for the first time ever in staff notation, for classical guitar. This is a far more complicated version than the original tablature released here in 2014, following more closely to Toumani Diabate's original recording on the 1987 album Kaira (the original tablature was a combination of his Kaira performance and his Mande Variations performance thirty years later). In my view the Kaira performance is far more virtuosic, far more rich in themes, and far more compositionally strong. In this new version the themes and ornaments are back in their original octave which separates the three voices even more than before (I took them down an octave in the original so as to make them more playable). It's a virtuoso showcase of the greatest solo instrumental music of Africa. Virtuoso, but not too hard to play if you give it a little bit of time.
